Maharashtra to meet Andhra in Inter State tennis tourney final
Gurgaon, Jun 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh edged past West Bengal 2-1 to set up a title clash with formidable Maharashtra who were clinical in their 2-0 victory in the semi-final of the Inter State Men's Tennis Tournament here today.
In the first semi-final, Sandeep and Nitin Kirtane won their singles in straight sets as Maharashtra blanked Delhi to move a step closer to the title.
Sandeep thrashed Siddharth Gulati 6-1, 6-2 while Nitin Kirtene beat Yannick Nelord 6-4, 6-2.
In the other semi-final, Andhra had an ominous start as Suresh Krishna lost to Manoj Sewa 1-6, 3-6. However, P C Vignesh kept his cool and defeated Saurav Sukul 4-6, 6-1 (12-10) to draw parity.
In doubles, Suresh and Vignesh proved a little too tough for Vinod Sewa and Saurav Sukul combine and with a 6-4, 6-3 win put Andhra in the final.
Meanwhile Chandigarh won all of its playoff matches to finish fifth while Chhattisgarh ended sixth. Goa downed Orissa 2-0 to grab the seventh spot.
