Govt agrees to provide maize to poultry farmers at low rate
New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) The Government has agreed to release 5.3 lakh tonnes of maize at a low rate to provide relief to the poultry farmers who have suffered heavy losses due to reports of bird flu.
The National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) had urged the Government for the much needed relief.
As the price of maize in the open market has steeply increased to about Rs 700 per quintal, the NECC has taken up the matter at the highest level to release the grain as soon as possible.
NECC is optimistic that with the maize made available to the farmer, the prices in the open market would come down.
Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee has appealed to poultry farmers to buy only the minimum quantity required to meet their immediate needs and not to resort to panic buying of extra quantities.
