Fuel price hike:Jaya, allies to demonstrate on June 12

Chennai, June 7 (UNI) Condemning the fuel price hike effected by the UPA Government for the sixth time, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today announced a state-wide protest demonstration by her party and its allies on June 12.

In a statement here, she said demonstrations would also be held in Pondicherry, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and New Delhi on the same day.

She said the constituents of party-led Democratic People's Alliance, including the MDMK and the Dalit Panthers of India(DPI), would take part in the agitations to be staged before Central Government organisations in all district headquarters in the State.

Ms Jayalalithaa said the oil price hike would have a cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities, affecting poor people.

She also condemned the DMK, PMK, CPI and CPI-M, all allies of the UPA, for ''betraying'' the interests of people, who voted for them in the Assembly elections.
