Y S R inaugurates 2nd phase of HNSS

Madanapalli, Andhra Pradesh, Jun 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekara Reddy today laid the foundation stone for the second phase of Handri Neva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) irrigation project at Basinikonda village near here, in Chittoor district.

Inaugurating the Rs 4,600 rpt 4,600 crore rpt crore project Mr Reddy termed it a blessing for the farmers in four drought-hit districts.

It would create an irrigation potential of 1.40 lakh acre in Chittoor district, 3.45 lakh acres in Ananthapur, 37,500 acre in Kadapa and 8000 acre in Kurnool covering a total of 439 villages, he said.

The second phase includes the construction of the main canal from 216 km to 554 km. (the first phase covered upto 216 km), five reservoirs at Gollapalli, Marala, Chiralopalle (Ananthapur District), Srinivasapuram and Advaipalle (Chittoor District).

Besides, it would provide drinking water to 23 lakh people in these districts, he said.

The project is aimed at bringing Krishna water to agricultural fields from Srisailam reservoir.
