TDP announces stir against fuel price hike
Hyderabad, June 6 (UNI) Oppositioin Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the main, today announced state-wide agitation for three days from June nine in all mandal headquarters and towns in Andhra Pradesh in protest against fuel price hike.
Speaking at a press conference here, TDP general secretary K Srihari and Politburo member Ummareddy Venkateswarulu observed that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government had hiked petrol price by Rs 17 and diesel by Rs 12 in the last 25 months.
This was on the pretext of crude oil price hike in the international market, they said.
Alleging that the Congress-led Government had imposed the price hike seven times, they urged the Centre to cut down the excise duty to offset the additional burden on the common man The TDP would join hands with all 'like-minded' parties to force the Centre to roll back the massive hike, they said.
