Tata Teleservices to invest Rs 225 cr in 2006-07
Kolkata, Jun 6: In a bid to increase its subscriber base in West Bengal, including Kolkata, from 6.76 to 15 lakhs, Tata Teleservices Limited will be investing Rs 255 crore in 2006-07.
Circle Operating Officer (West Bengal) Anurag Garg told UNI today that the company will expand its presence in 87 towns and add 135 new BTSs in the districts.
''We are also planning to increase highway coverage from 450 km to 1350 km,'' Mr Garg added. Out of the total Rs 225 crore to be invested by the company in the state, Rs 130 crore has been allocated for West Bengal circle and Rs 125 crore would be invested in the Kolkata circle.
''To meet the increasing demand in North Bengal, we will be coming up with a new switch in Siliguri within a month,'' he said.
The current subscriber base of the company in West Bengal circle is 1.62 lakhs (till April end), which the company aims to increase to 5 lakh, Mr Garg said.
While in Kolkata Circle, the company has set target to increase the subscriber base from 5.14 lakhs to 10 lakh.
Circle Operating Officer (Kolkata) Abhijit Pal told UNI today, '' We will erect 104 additional BTSs in Kolkata telecom circle in the current fiscal.''
