SWR to open 200 kiosks for unreserved ticketing in K'taka
Bangalore, June 6 (UNI) The South Western Railway will open 200 kiosks for unreserved ticket bookings, as a pilot project, all over Karnataka.
Addressing a Railway Users Consultative Committee meeting here today, Divisional Railway Manager Mahesh Kumar, also the Committee Chairman, said ten stations in Bangalore division would be developed as model stations -- Bangalore City, Bangalore Cantonment, Yeshvantpur, K R Puram, Bangarpet, Tumkur, Mandya, Hidupur, Hosur and Dharmapuri. In the city station, all platforms would be extended to accommodate 24 coaches for better handling of train movement, a SWR release here said.
Two more platforms would be provided to enable direct services from Bangalore Cantonment station, he said.
The Committee members called for steps to improve cleanliness in stations and trains, run more trains from Bangalore to Mysore and Chikballapur, provision of stop at Yelahanka for Kurla Express and improvement of Chikballapur and Gowribidanur railway stations. They also complained of insufficient toilets and shelters at Penukonda and Hindupur stations.
