Silver opens down; gold rises

Mumbai, June 6: Values of silver opened lower on thin demand but gold ruled better on firm advice from global markets and fresh demand by local dealers, traders at the bullion market today said.

Following were the opening rates today: Silver (per kg) .999 fineness grade : Rs 18,380, Gold (per 10 gm): Gold 99.5 purity standard mint: : Rs 9,485, Gold 99.9 purity variety : Rs 9,535.
