School children in TN to be given eggs twice a week
New Delhi, June 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Karunanidhi today announced eggs would be supplied twice a week along with nutritious meals to school children from July 15, coinciding with the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K Kamaraj.
During his plan discussion with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, he said July 15 would be celebrated as "Education Development Day." He said his government would accord priority to enhance the nutritional status of children studying in schools.
Dr Karunanidhi sought 'more liberal funding' from the Planning Commission under the "Mid-Day Meal Scheme" of the Centre.
