Rs 60,000 cr investment in power sector in next 5 years: Patil

Mumbai, Jun 6 (UNI) Maharashtra Energy Minister Dilip Valse-Patil today said three companies--Mahagenco, Mahatransco and Mahavitaran-- will invest Rs 60,000 crore in the next five years in the power sector for various developmental works.

On the successful completion of a year, since the division of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB), Mr Valse-Patil told reporters here that although the State is reeling under power shortage of nearly 4,500 MW, it would receive 2,000 MW power by December.

He also said due to various schemes like Akshay Prakash Yojna, single Phasing, independent feeder, the load shedding in 12,000 villages has been stopped completely.

Due to the division of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board into three companies, the lossess in transmission has come down by 3.38 per cent thereby saving Rs 600 crore in one year, he said.

He further said the government wants to bring down the transmission losses by three per cent more.

The revenue generation has also been increased by 15.10 per cent, while the capacity of recovery would also be increased along with reducing the damages of transformers.
