Petrol, diesel prices go up from midnight
New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) The government today effected a steep hike of Rs four per litre in petrol prices and Rs 2 per litre in case of diesel but spared any increase in the prices of kerosene and LPG, giving thrust to cost-push inflation.
The Union Cabinet decision, which came into effect from midnight, drew immediate protests from the Left parties, supporting the UPA government from the outside, which had announced a nationwide agitation if the government went ahead with the hike.
