''Peace is the need of the hour in NE'': Major General
Aizawl, June 6 (UNI) Army major general E J Kochekkan today reiterated that it is high time to usher in peace in the north east region for the sustained development.
Talking to UNI here at the Raj Bhavan, Mr Kochekkan pointed out that the development has been severaly affected in the NE region for the past two decades due to insurgency activities.
He also urged all the insurgent groups across the region to come to the negotiating table to find a long term peaceful solution.
He said, ''Insurgents should understand that all the people especially in the NE are fed up of unlawful activities''.
Mr Kochekkan, who was here for a day's tour, pointed out, ''With 20 years down the line now, signing of a peace accord between the Indian government and the Mizo National Front in Delhi on June 30, 1986, is a shining example for others''.
''Due to insurgency many outsiders were not coming here to invest for starting any business'', he said adding ''this is not only creating unemployment problem but also hampering developmental activities in their region''.
