Pamphlets supporting militant trigger tension in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, June 6 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the city today when some pamphlets allegedly containing slogans in support of a recently slain militant, Irfan Athar, were found near a religious place here, which resulted in an agitation and arrest of some local Shiv Sena leaders.
According to police, a few pamphlets saying 'Irfan Athar Amar Rahe' long live Irfan Athar were found near the Mahalaxmi temple here this morning. enraged over the incident some religious outfits and Shiv Sena activists and staged a road blockade.
Sensing trouble, the shopkeepers in the city downed shutters.
Later, in a bid to clear-off the road blockade, police arrested district Sena leaders - Rambhau Chavan, Sanjay Pawar and others, who were a part of the demonstration.
Police said the pamphlets which triggered the incident were written in support of Athar, who was gunned down in an encounter with the Border Security Force at Pulwama in South Kashmir on May 30.
