Patna, June 6 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today termed the price hike of petrol and diesel as "anti-people" and said it would affect the interests of the masses.

Reacting to the issue here, Mr Kumar said price hike of petro-products would result in spurt in prices of essentials making the lives of common people miserable.

Domestic prices of petrol and diesel should be determined on the basis of import price and not on the business price, he maintained saying India was a public welfare country and attempts should be made to protect the interests of the people.

Fresh rise in price would increase the inflation, which would not be in the interest of the common man, he observed.

He pointed out that it was fifth instances that hike in prices of petrol and diesels had been effected during the two years tenure of UPA government at the Centre.
