MLA calls for change economic policy

Pathanamthitta, Jun 6 (UNI) Prof. C Raveendra Nath, MLA, today said it was imperative to make immediate change in the Centre's Economic policy which has the potential to weaken states economically against the backdrop of Globalisation.

He was speaking on 'Globalisation and Centre-States economic relations' at the ongoing 43rd State Conference of Kerala NGO Union at Adoor.

He said the Centre had manipulated Finance Commission and Planning Commission to reduce the financial allotment due to Kerala for the last 15 years. The Central policy favoured those state which were enthusiastic in withdrawing from service sectors and in introducing privatisation, he said.

He called for a concerted fight to defeat Globalisation which had the cumulative effect in creating hundreds to the federal system and the developmental endeavours of the state.

The conference, in a resolution, demanded a rollback of the hike in prices of diesel and petrol. It protested against reluctance of the Centre in reducing the import duty on Petroleum products.
