Kancheepuram, June 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin today said elections to local bodies would be held in the state at an appropriate time.

Talking to newspersons after discussions with local body officials here, he said the work undertaken by the delimitation committee was being examined for the purpose of conducting local body polls.

Asked if the elections would be held in two or three tiers, Mr Stalin said they would be conducted in accordance with law.

He said after today's review meeting, he had instructed officials and elected representatives of local bodies to complete all pending work. In many areas problems pertaining to drinking water supply and laying of roads had to be addressed, Mr Stalin said.

The previous AIADMK government had scrapped a number of schemes launched by the DMK during its 1996-2001 rule and all those schemes would be revived, he said.

The AIADMK government had failed to fully utilise funds and subsidies made available by the Centre for various schemes, he alleged and assured that the DMK government would fully utilise them.

Replying to a question, he said the government would take a decision within a week on sand quarrying.

The meeting chaired by District Collector Pradip Yadav was attended by Labour Minister T M Anbarasan and senior officials.
