Guwahati, June 6 (UNI) The AGP leadership faced severe criticism from party members at his crucial central executive which begein today to introspect the reasons behind the poor performance of the party.

The victorious and defeated candidates of the party presented their version before the AGP leadership at the meet which was chaired by party president Brindabon Goswami.

The party leadership were slammed by the defeated candidates, saying the party could not remove confusion over selection of candidates and in many cases allowed the dissidence to grow.

Several former MLAs criticised the party president personally for not being able to give strong leadership. The AGP has 24 MLAs in comparison to 19 in the last Assembly.

The party leaders squarely put the responsibility on the division of vote because of the split in the AGP camp. The breakaway AGP(P) although won only one seat, but ensured defeat of the AGP in at least 15 other seats.

Amid demands from a section of regional forces to reunite, the central executive committee of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) had started its post-mortem of the election debacle faced by the party in the recently held Assembly election in the state.

The meeting of the powerful committee drew more importance as most of the breakaway groups of the party, its dissident candidates of the recent election and the Asom Jatiatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP), a strong youth organisation of the state, had favoured reunification of the regional forces in the state.
