IBM CEO gives credit to Indian Knowledge Workers

Bangalore, June 6 (UNI) The country's 'Knowledge Workers', who have proved to be the best in the world, have scripted the major success story of PC maker IBM Corporation in India, its CEO and Chairman Samuel J Palmisano lauded today.

''Young people of this country have tremendous skills in mathematics and science. The credibility and name IBM India has earned is due to the country's knowledge workers. You are responsible for our success. Our strategies have worked because of you. This is why we achieved an impressive 55 per cent growth in just one year during the last fiscal,'' he said, speaking at an impressive 'IBM Townhall', attended by around 10,000 employees of the firm here.

Mr Palmisano said IBM, which was the first IT major to enter the country in 1951, would launch a major expansion drive in India as the country offered the best mind power. It had decided to triple its investment from the present two billion US Dollars over the next three years. IBM, well known as a multinational company, was now projecting itself to become a truly global company and the Indian employees would play a major part in achieving this.

Drawing a parallel with India's popular sport - cricket, he said ''in India, IBM, with its 43,000 employee strength, looks like a cricket stadium. Opportunities beckons you in all businesses run by us. You can excel in any of our arms like service industry, laboratories, customer support, advance technological centres or research in India, Asia or in the whole world.'' He said India, as the fastest growing economy, would produce 21 million college graduates by 2010. This would mean that the country would emerge more stronger in the next decade, he added.
