Haryana to implement World Bank aided health project

Chandigarh, June 6 (UNI) The Haryana Health Department has decided to involve private practitioners and medical colleges in the effective implementation of the World Bank aided Rs 2.17 crore Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) by signing a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with them.

The Haryana Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Health, Urvashi Gulati, who presided over a sensitization workshop and meeting of the state Surveillance Committee here today described this ambitious programme as the backbone of public health delivery system.

She emphasised on signing of MoUs between the state surveillance units and the private practitioners and medical colleges which should also specify the specific role to be played by each stakeholder.

The state government would provide funds as well as some equipment to the private practitioner and medical colleges for the implementation of the programme.

Ms Gulati said that integration of public and private sector in diagnosing and treating the disease was the essence in early detection and containment of spread of disease and epidemic.

Dr Rajesh Kumar of PGIMER, Chandigarh suggested that private practitioners and medical colleges should be actively involved for the success of the programme. He said there should be orientation trainning for private practitioners, the provision of which already existed in the implementation strategy.

The representatives of the Public Health Department assured the committee of their full cooperation in providing safe drinking water to the community so as to prevent the spread of diseases.
