Girl dies in roof collapse

Bijapur (Karnataka), June 6: A 12-year-old girl died when the roof of her house collapsed at Chikkagurasungi village in the district following heavy rains last night.

Police said Bhagavva Madar died on the spot.

Revenue sources said many villages in the district recorded heavy rainfall. Managoli village recorded 88 mm rain, followed by Kondaguli village 80 mm, Bagewadi town 59 mm, Bijapur city and surrounding areas 57 mm.

Due to heavy rains, low lying areas in the city were marooned and normal life was paralysed for about five to six hours.
