Vijayawada, June 6 (UNI) Farmers of seven villages in Krishna district, who began relay fast since yesterday at Kanchikacharla Mandal in protest against the Andhra Pradesh Government's move to acquire agricultural lands to set up textile and apparel parks, entered the second day today.

The farmers were expressing their anger over the Government's order to acquire 1,603 acres of land belonging to them.

The Telugu Desam Party(TDP), which expressed solidarity with the farmers on the issue, alleged that the State Government had decided to acquire the lands only to appease the private industrialists, who were keen to set up their units in the prime land.

TDP MLA of Nandigama Constituency, Devineni Uma Mahaeswara Rao said the agitation would continue until the Krishna district Collector Navin Mittal cancelled the acquisition order.

Mr Rao asked the Government to look for an alternative land available in the area, rather than acquiring the land belonging to the farmers.
