Curfew relaxed in Aligarh, Cong MP arrested
Aligarh, Jun 6 (UNI) With situation returning to normal, the curfew clamped on five police station areas here was relaxed for three hours in phases.
Addressing mediapersons in Lucknow this evening, Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary R M Srivastava said Banna Devi, Gandhi Park and Kotwali areas witnessed curfew relaxation between 0930 and 1230 hrs.
Other curfew- bound areas of Sasani Gate and Dehli Gate were given relaxation from 1400 to 1700 hrs.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Vijendra Singh was arrested for violating curfew orders.
So far, 259 people have been arrested. While have been arrested on some charges of violating ban order, others arrested include are anti-social elements.
The curfew was relaxed in Banna Devi and Gandhi Park areas yesterday also.
Violence had erupted after local BJP leader and trader O P Gupta was shot dead by armed miscreants on May 28 last month.
While Bablu -- one of the accused -- was lynched by locals, Azimullah died of bullet wounds in a city hospital. At least nine people were also wounded in the clashes that followed.
