CPI(M) organises rail roko on fuel price hike
Vijayawada, Jun 6: CPI(M) activists and leaders held a rail roko programme by detaining the Howrah-Trivandrum express for thirty minutes at the Vijayawada railway station today, in protest against the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.
The agitation led by CPI(M) State Committee member Ch Babu Rao criticised the Congress-led UPA Government for increasing the prices of petrol and diesel six times so far.
He said the increase would have a cascading effect on the prices of all essential commodities.
Mr Rao said the Government should consider reduction in sales tax and excise duty so that the burden was not passed on to the people.
The party would continue to hold agitations with like-minded parties, until the Centre rolls back the hike, he added.
