Cong for simplification of IT form

New Delhi, Jun 6 (UNI) The Congress has opposed the Income Tax Department's move to have a four-page form to file income tax return by tax assesses, and demanded simplification of the form to avoid harassment of the common man.

''We believe that the Saral(the form hitherto used for the purpose) must remain Saral and not become complex, ''party Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.

''This is necessary to avoid harassment of the common man,'' he told UNI.

Meanwhile, the matter came up for discussion at a meeting of the AICC General Secretaries held at the AICC Headquarters here last evening, in which senior party leaders demanded simplification of the form, saying it was complex, according to party sources.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, according to the sources, has disapproved of the four page income tax form prescribed in place of the Saral, and suggested its implication to avoid any inconvenience to the tax payers.
