Banks to consider waiver of farm loans: CM
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 6 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said nationalised banks would consider a proposal to write off the agriculture loans up to one lakh rupees taken by farmers who committed suicide.
Talking to newspersons here after a meeting of the State-Level Bankers Committe, he said representatives of various banks had agreed to look into the proposal as about 1,500 debt-ridden farmers had committed suicide in the state during the past five years.
He said the banks should come forward to offer some relief to tide over the crisis being faced by farmers in the state.
The Chief Minister said a special meeting would be convened to discuss the issues relating to the agriculture loans taken from cooperative banks.
