Ashok Leyland sales up 21 pc in May '06
Mumbai, June 6: Truck and bus major Ashok Leyland Ltd has sold 5,631 vehicles in May, a 21 per cent increase over the 4,655 vehicles it sold in May last year.
Announcing this, the company said its domestic sales accounted for 5,322 units showing a 23 per cent growth over the 4,332 vehicles sold in the corresponding period last year, while exports accounted for 309 units (323 units).
The company's May sales figures had increased in comparison to a month ago. It had sold 5,039 vehicles in April this year, 47 per cent more than in the same month last year. Domestic sales accounted for 4,750 vehicles and the exports in the month of April were 289 vehicles.
The company plans to enter the light commercial vehicles segment which would improve its portfolio. It has further planned to spend around Rs 600 crore to the increase production capacity to 1,00,000 units in two years from 77,000 units at present.
