Abductor killed in encounter

Samastipur, June 5 (UNI) A criminal was gunned down in an encounter with police this evening at Sardarganj chowk under Dalsinghsarai police station in Bihar's Samastipur district.

In the gun battle two police personnel including an inspector sustained bullet injuries.

Deputy Police Superintendent B N Jha told UNI the criminals opened fire from thier hideout on an approaching police party, who were in plain cloths accompanied by kins of a kidnapped child. The child was picked up from Kotwali police station area of Patna for ransom.

On receiving demand for ransom, the kins of kidnapped child informed the police, who went to a fixed location. On seeing the policemen proceeding towards them, the criminals opened fire and the police retaliated in which one of the attackers was killed, Mr Jha added.
