2400 MT fertilisers distributed among Kashmiri farmers

Srinagar, June 6 (UNI) About 2400 metric tonnes (MT) of fertilisers have been distributed among the farmers of the Kashmir valley during the past week, an official spokesman said today.

He said in next few days another consignment of 2400 MT of NPK fertiliser was expected to reach the Valley.

This was stated at a high-level meeting here to review the availability of fertilisers in the Valley.

The meeting, chaired by Agriculture and Cooperative Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar, was told that during the next week about 500 trucks of fertilisers woul arrive in Kashmir to ensure availability of sufficient stocks.

About 83 trucks would be sent to the Anantnag district by JAKFED while 33 to Pulwama, Kupwara and Baramulla would get 26 trucks each while 14 would be despatched to Badgam.

The Minister asked the officials concerned to ensure timely supply of quality fertilisers to the farmers during the ongoing transplantation season.

He also called for intensifying the checking of fertilisers supplied to the farmers by cooperative societies and private dealers.

Mr Zargar stressed for strict action against those found selling sub-standard and spurious fertilisers to the farmers.
