SC dismisses sex scandal accused DSP's petition

New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed the petition of a Jammu and Kashmir Police DSP and an accused in the Srinagar sex scandal, Mohammed Ashraf Mir, who was arrested in the Valley yesterday.

The petitioner had challenged the J and K High Court order, directing the subordinate court to not entertain any bail application filed by any of the accused in the case without prior permission of the High Court.

''We do not find any reason for interfering with the High Court's order in view of the peculiar facts and circumstances of case,'' the vacation bench of Supreme Court, comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and C K Thakker said while dismissing the petition.

Meanwhile, the apex court also refused to grant protection to a Deputy Inspector General of Border Security Force -- presently posted in Asom -- against impending arrest in the same case.

Rani Chabbra, appeared for the DIG, who has been summoned by the J&K Police for interrogation for his alleged involvement in the sex scandal, which sparked off an agitation in Kashmir valley after names of some top politicans, bureaucrats and senior police officials cropbed up in the sex abuse case.

Seeking protection for her client, who apprehended arrest in the case, Ms Chabbra pleaded that her clieint had no objection in joining the investigation provided he was given protection against the arrest as his career was at stake.
