New Delhi, Jun 5: The Left parties today dismissed BSP supremo Ms Mayawati's prediction about the fall of the UPA government in July-end saying she was reading too much in the situation arising out of President A P J Kalam returning the Bill on Office of Profit to Parliament.

The leaders of the CPI(M), CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc said Ms Mayawati had every right to hold her personal views, but the arithmetic of the present Parliament did not suggest any such possibility.

The BSP chief observed yesterday that "the Central Government was facing instability since the past one week, ever since President Kalam returned the Office of profit Bill to Parliament." She also claimed the Election Commission " is likely" to announce its decision on MPs who came under the purview of the OoP controversy and that the government would go during the monsoon session of Parliament.

It may be noted that 10-11 Left Mps including Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee are facing the charges of holding OoP.

Talking to sources, CPI(M) Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Salim Mohammad said," Ms Mayawati seems to be reading too much into the situation. We don't hold this view." CPI national Secretary Shamim Faizi, who refused even to react, said," Why should we comment on a speculation.." Forward Bloc national Secretary G Devrajan said Ms Mayawati was indulging in" day-dreaming" as nothing of the sort was going to happen.

"There is no immediate threat to the UPA government," Mr Devrajan said elaborating that the EC is a democratic institution and would not take a " hasty decision".

He hoped that the EC would rather facilitate to remove the ambiguity with regard to definition of Office of Profit." The Parliament, the entire nation and legislature are siezed with the matter." The Forward Bloc said the Left parties had already taken the decision and asked the EC not to get" embroiled" into the controversy as it was essentially a matter "between the Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament." RSP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Abani Roy did not agree with the BSP chief's observation that the government could come in minority if the EC chose to disqualify the MPs embroiled in the controversy.

"These are not the Left party MPs alone.. Some of them belong to the Congress, some BJP, some SP and some even BSP." "The arithmetic of the present Parliament do not indicate towards any situation where the mid term polls are any possiblity in the near future," Mr Roy said adding that " if the Congress itself wants the snap polls, it is a different matter." On Ms Mayawati's observation that the Congress could go in for mid-term polls and make the reservations as its poll plank, he quipped, "how can it gain in any way?" But he observed that the Congress was definitely facing difficulties in running the coalition government as even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and members of the Union Cabinet were not speaking in one voice on policy matters.
