Unhealthy trends led to defeat in some constituencies: CPM
Thiruvananthapuram, June 4 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist), which won a landslide victory in the recent Assembly elections, today said it could have fared better if ''certain unhealthy trends'' had not been witnessed in the party and the Left Democratic Front.
The party, which cautioned against such unhealthy practices, was of the opinion that such trends had led to the defeat of some of its candidates in the Assembly elections, a party press release said after the state committee meeting which discussed the election review report.
Chief Minister V S Achutanandan's struggle outside and inside the Assembly while he was the opposition leader and the party's struggle against the anti-people policies of the previous United Democratic Front government had helped in the landslide victory, it said.
Certain organisations, which hitherto were with the Congress, had also helped the party in this election, it said and added that the party had got a sweeping victory in 12 of the 14 districts.
It also lashed out at the Election Commission for conducting the election in three phases.
