Mizoram sees series of landslides in 24 hours
Aizawl, Jun 4: Monsoon rains, since last five days, have disrupted surface communication across Mizoram followed by minor to major landslides in the past 24 hours.
The worst hit capital city has experienced as many as 15 landslides, including two major one, in different localaties following non-stop rain.
The roads in the state capital were blocked due to the landslides, apart from posing danger to the dwellings.
The public works department was busy clearing the road blocks.
The ministers also visited the affected areas.
However, in some of the affected areas the condition of the soil was such that the occupants were asked to vacate those places.
State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Lalrinchhana has visited the affected areas in the western and southern parts of the city, Local Administration Minister H Vanlalauva visited several localities in his Aizawl East II constituency.
The cemetery of Tanhril, a locality located on the western outskirts of the city, suffered a major landslide that affected about six graves.
Besides this, Saiha district was also affected by a series of landslides, even on the national highway cutting off from the rest of the state.
Meanwhile, Aizawl District Deputy Commissioner Vanengmawia said his office has distributed more than one thousand silpoulines to the affected people for covering lands that has become loosened due to incessant rains.
