Inflation moves further to 4.74 per cent
New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) The annual rate of inflation rose to 4.74 per cent for the week ended May 20, as against 4.32 per cent during the previous week due to an increase in food and manufactured product prices.
The inflation rate, calculated on point-to-point basis, stood at 5.38 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year, according to official figures released here.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for all commodities for the week ended May 20, rose by 0.3 per cent to 201.1 from 200.5 for the previous week.
The index for the Primary Articles group rose by 1.2 per cent to 199.7 from 197.3 for the previous week.
The index for Food Articles group rose by 1.4 per cent to 203.8 from 201.0 for the previous week due to higher prices of tea (27 per cent), poultry chicken (8 per cent), fish-marine (4 per cent), bajra (3 per cent), milk and fruits and vegetables (2 per cent each) and barley, gram, pork and jowar (1 per cent each).
However, the prices of eggs (1 per cent) declined.
The index for Non-Food Articles group rose by 0.2 per cent to 176.8 from 176.4 for the previous week due to higher prices of raw rubber (3 per cent), groundnut seed (2 per cent) and raw jute (1 per cent).
However, the prices of sunflower (3 per cent) and copra, raw cotton and niger seed (1 per cent each) declined.
