Delhi BJP questions Left stand on oil price hike
New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) The Delhi unit of the BJP has questioned the stand of Left parties on the proposed oil price hike, saying these parties were supporting the same UPA government that they were criticising on the street.
''The Left parties have approved the increase in the prices of diesel and petrol in closed-door meetings, but are misleading the general public by saying that they shall start a countrywide movement if oil prices are increased,'' Delhi unit BJP President Harsh Vardhan said in a statement.
The ''dual character'' of Left parties had been exposed during the last two years of UPA government, he said, arguing that the prices of essential commodities had increased many times while the prices of petrol and diesel would be increased for the 5th time shortly, despite protests by Left parties.
''These parties had threatened to disallow the government from functioning if private players are allowed in the insurance sector, airports are privatised and the interest rate of provident fund is not increased''.
On the contrary, the Congress-led government openly allowed private players to enter the insurance sector, Delhi and Mumbai airports were privatised and the rate of interest on PF was not increased, he pointed out.
The Left parties had also failed to pressurise the government on its foreign policy, the women's reservation Bill and the bill for welfare of workers in the unorganised sector, he added.
