Jaipur, June 3 (UNI) The state forest department is planning a tiger safari in Sawai Madhopur near the famous Ranthambore National Park.

A proposal of Rs three crore has been sent to the National Wildlife Board for approval.

State forest minister Laxmi Narayan Dave said the tiger safari which will house three enclosures with six tigers will enable tourists to see the tigers, even if they miss it at Ranthambore.

The declining number of tigers in the National Parks like Sariska and Ranthambore has been a cause of worry for the State Government.

Sariska now has no tigers left, mainly due to poaching and degrading environment.

Mr Dave said the tiger safari built on 250 hectares of land would have huge enclosures where tourists will be able to take their vehicles. The entire tour of the safari would take at least half-an hour. And the forest department will employ special vehicles to take tourists around the safari.

The six tigers to be released in the enclosures would be sourced from the different zoos in the State, said Mr Dave.

The tiger safari to be built on the lines of the one in Mumbai's Borivali region, is expected to decrease the tourist traffic in Ranthambore.
