Six killed in rain-related incidents, heavy rainfall in Ratnagiri

Mumbai, June 3 (UNI) As many as six people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in several parts of Maharashtra.

An official release here today said, while one was electrocuted, two died when lightning struck them and three more lost their lives after falling in water yesterday.

The Ratnagiri district recorded 72.5 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, while Raigad 61.8, Sindhudurg 47.8, Satara 41, Kolhapur 39.1, Mumbai 2.9, Mumbai suburbs 0.2, Thane 21.4, Nashik 7.6, Nandurbar 22.7, Pune 18.1, Sangli 17.4, Osmanabad 9 mm and Chandrapur 8.8.

Reports from Ratnagiri said due to heavy rainfall on May 30 and 31, six houses were damaged completely while 525 partially. The total damage of the houses was to the tune of Rs 57.43 lakh. Four people including a woman died in this district.

The Aarey-Vaarey bridge in Ratnagiri was also damaged and has been closed for the vehicular traffic.

The railway traffic on the Konkan route is limping back to normalcy, the release added.
