Robbers kill bank guard, police gun down one criminal

Lucknow, June 3 (UNI) Police today gunned down a criminal, who was on the run after robbing a trader of several lakhs of rupees and killing a bank guard in Premnagar area of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh.

The slain robber was yet to be identified. One of his two aides was also nabbed, while the other managed to escape.

A foreign pistol and two countrymade firearms were recovered from the arrested robber.

Police said Sudhir Goyal was on way to deposit cash in Punjab National Bank this afternoon, when he was waylaid by three armed miscreants.

When the guard of the bank intervened, the criminals shot him dead and fled with the booty comprising Rs 3.89 lakh in cash.

However, the trio were intercepted at a police picket, who engaged the criminals in an encounter killing one of them.

Rs 3.56 lakh of the looted booty has also been recovered and Investigations are on.
