Rare distinction for NGO
Guwahati, Jun 3 (UNI) Aaranyak, an NGO fighting for biodiversity conservation in North East India since 1989, has achieved a rare distinction in the scientific arena.
Official sources here said the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology had recognised Aaranyak as the Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) on May 18.
Aaranyak has been involved in scientific research and follow up conservation for the past 17 years in Assam in particular and other North East states in general.
It has successfully mixed up its conservation initiatives incorporating applied scientific research, education and outreach, community involvement and advocacy towards making the legal and policy framework more effective to address conservation needs.
The SIRO recognition would further enhance the scientific research component of Aaranyak in years to come. Further it will provide Aaranyak a strong presence in the scientific communities and researchers across the globe as stated in a press release of the organisation, sources added.
