Post offices to be outlet for works of music legends

New Delhi, June 3 (UNI) The music legends are now going to be available in post offices! The creations of maestros will be brought out from the archives of Doordarshan in the form of CDs, VCDs and DVDs and post offices across the country will serve as outlets for their sale.

The DD will sign an MoU with the postal department in this connection soon, which will allow post offices to put up counters for the sale of these CDs and DVDs.

These works are also planned to be put on broadband so that they can be downloaded.

This was announced by Prasar Bharti CEO K S Sarma at a function held here last evening to launch 11 DVD titles of DD archives featuring Amjad Ali Khan, Bhimsen Joshi, Kathak exponents Shovana Narain, Saswati Sen, Harish Rawat, Prerna Srimali and Ram Mohan Maharaj.

The works also include Rabindra Sangeet rendered by Hemanta Mukhopadhyaya, Dwijen Mukhopadhyaya, Sagar Sen, Suchitra Mitra, Subinoy Roy and others.

''There has been a general complaint that works of these legends are not easily available. These will now be available not only in post offices, but also in major shops in towns and cities,'' he said.

He also announced that by the month end, DD will launch its cultural channel in the US to cater to the large Indian Diaspora.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, who released the titles, said DD archives were a treasure house of the country's musical heritage.
