Monroe beats Sunil to clinch ITF Futures title
Dehradun, Jun 3 (UNI) Third seed Nick Monroe of USA won the 15,000 dollar ITF Mens Futures Tennis Tournament beating local hope and sixth seed Sunil Kumar Sipaeya 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 here today.
Ranked 588th, Sunil started off well breaking Monroe in the 10th game but a drizzle interrupted the match for 54 minutes after that.
As soon as the match resumed, Sunil broke Monroe's serve again and won the set 6-4.
In the second set, 386th ranked Monroe, Delhi ITF runner-up regained his composure and kept Sunil on the run in the base line forcing him to err.
The American broke Sunil thrice before a double fault by the Indian cost him the second set.
In the final set, Monroe led 5-1 before Sunil came back tomake it 5-3. But it was too little too late as Monroe walked away with championship trophy and 1950 dollars.
