Medicos strike disrupts Kozhikode Medical College

Kozhikode, Jun 3 (UNI) Functioning of the Kozhikode Medical College, one of the premier medical institutions in Kerala, was partially affected today following a flash strike by doctors and students.

Post-graduate students and house surgeons went on a 24-hour token strike from 0800 hrs in protest against the alleged attempt to manhandle one of them by a patient's attendant yesterday, House Surgeons' Association secretary Aneesh George said.

It had become very difficult for doctors to carry out their duties without fear as such incidents were on the rise recently, he said.

Doctors would go on lightning strike if patients or attendants misbehaved, he said, adding, a representation had been given to KMC Principal V Geetha.

Meanwhile, Dr Geetha said alternative arrangements were made by shifting staff from other departments to the casualty section and labour rooms, which were worst affected by the strike.

She said the complaint received from the agitators was referred to police for necessary action.
