CPI warns of agitation against petro price hike
Lucknow, June 3 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary A B Bardhan today warned of a countrywide agitation if petroleum prices were hiked by the central government.
Addressing the two-day Uttar Pradesh CPI unit working committee meeting, that started here today, Mr Bardhan maintained that the left parties had clearly sounded the Centre about taking effective steps to control inflation.
On the quota issue, he claimed the left had played a major role in the proposal to reserve 27 per cent seats for OBCs in higher educational institutions.
''The recently concluded assembly polls in five states have confirmed that people are supporting leftist policies,'' he added.
The left veteran also exhorted the CPI cadre to gear up for the UP assembly polls slated early next year.
