Court remands I-T Dy Director to 14-day judicial custody

New Delhi, Jun 3 (UNI) A city court today remanded the Income Tax Deputy Director (Investigations) Satish Kumar to 14-day judicial custody in connection with in a bribery case.

Patiala House Court Special Judge S K Kaushik remanded Kumar to judicial custody till June 16.

Kumar, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1978 batch, had amassed assets worth crores of rupees, a senior CBI official said. He surrendered before the court on May 27.

CBI today sought a 14-day judicial custody for Kumar, which granted.

The CBI on May 25 has laid a trap on the complaint of Ramesh Juneja, MD of a Delhi-based pharmaceutical company and caught the senior I-T official accepting Rs 8 lakh, but he managed to give the sleuths a slip.

The CBI even detained his wife Meenu, Additional Director, Customs posted in Noida.

The CBI conducted raids at the couple's two houses in Noida and and claimed to have unearthed assets worth crores of rupees.

The assets include several pieces of 'benami' land in Meerut and 15 bank accounts in Delhi and Meerut, said a senior CBI official.

Kumar has also been booked for trying to injure a senior CBI personnel. He had allegedly tried to crash his car into CBI vehicle when it was chasing to nab him.

CBI has arrested the driver and Kumar's ''middleman'' Amar Singh Kain.
