Congress leader and driver shot dead in Maharastra

Mumbai, June 3 (UNI) Congress leader Pawan Raje Nimbalkar and his driver Sayyed Kazi were killed after being shot at near Sai Snake bar off Pune express highway by unidentified persons this evening.

According to police sources in the Navi Mumbai commissionarate, Pawan Raje Nibalkar, was on his way to Pune in a car between 1600 and 1630 hrs, when some persons fired at them in which his Kazi suffered a head injury while Nibalkar received chest injuries.

They were rushed to the Navi Mumbai Civicl hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The Late Nimbalkar, the Cousin of powerful NCP leader Dr Padmsingh Patil was at loggerheads with him. Nimbalkar even contested the 2004 assembly elections as an Independent candidate against Dr Patil in the NCP leader won by a slender margin of over 400 votes. However, in 2005 he shifted to the Congress.

Nimbalkar was facing several allegations of financial embezzlement in Osmanabad Janata sahakari bank.
