Bangalore, June 3 (UNI) Thanks to the early onset of South-West monsoon, the water level in the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir across river Cauvery, the lifeline of South Karnataka and major parts of Tamil Nadu, touched 93.55 ft today as against the maximum level of 124.80 ft with an inflow of 15,348 cusecs.

Water level in KRS had crossed 90 ft within a week of the onset of monsoon for the first time in 21 years. The level at Kabini reservoir stood at 2,274.49 ft compared to the full level of 2,284 ft. The inflow was reduced to 9,586 cusecs.

With the monsoon rains subsiding in the coastal and ghat districts of the State, there was no report of any rain-related damage today.

Bhatkal recorded heavy rainfall of 18 cm, followed by Bajpe 11, Panambur nine, Gerusoppa and Mudigere seven each.

There was a let up in the downpour that lashed Kodagu district since Sunday last. However, light to moderate rain continued at Bhagamandala and Talacauvery in the district.

Meanwhile, many parts of Uttara Kannada district were plunged into darkness for the fourth consecutive day today due to frequent power shutdowns. The district, known for its cascading west-flowing rivers, housed many hydro-electric projects which supply substantial amount of power to the power-starved State.
