BJP demands cantonment in terrorist infested areas of J

Jammu, June 3 (UNI) Following the recent spurt in attacks by the militants on soft targets, the BJP today urged the Centre to set up a cantonment in the terrorist infested areas of Jammu and Kashmir and provide sophisticated weapons to the Village Defence Committees (VDC) to firmly deal with terrorism.

BJP's State Incharge Mr Manohar Lal while talking to mediapersons here accused the Congress led UPA government and the state government for their lack of will and indifferent attitute to deal firmly with terrorists.

He was here in connection with the arrangements for the BJP's week-long ''satyagraha'' to be held from June 7 to 15 to protest against the spurt in terrorist activities in the state.

Describing the terrorist attacks on innocent people as an acat of cowardice Mr Lal came heavily on the Centre for holding talks with the seperatists who do not have faith in the Constitution and the democratic set up of the country. He accused the Centre of having a 'soft' attitute towards terrorists and expressed concern over its move of contemplating release of terrorists, jailed for heinous crimes.

Announcing the satyagraha programme, Mr Lal said that BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, M M Joshi and Sushma Swaraj -- will be among those senior leaders who will participate in it. He said Mr Naidu will lead the first batch of party leaders and workers from Kerala, Rajasthan and Akhnoor district of Jammu and will stage dharna, demostrations and court arrest here on June 7.

BJP leaders Sahib Singh Verma, Shanta Kumar, Thabar Chand Gehlot, Om Prakash Mathur, Viyay Kumar Malhotra, Anant Kumar, Shushma Swaraj, Vinay Katiyar and Dr Murli Manohar Joshi will lead the party workers for satyagraha.
