Airtel launches India's first Tamil voice portal

Chennai, Jun 3: Airtel, a leading mobile service, has launched 747, India's first 'Tamil' voice portal comprising a number of interesting and exciting features.

Up and coming Tamil actor Srikanth launched the voice portal by making the first call to '747' at a function here last night.

The service included attractive features like ringtones, greetings, Thirukkural, Kavithai arangam, tips for women, film jokes and dialogues, business talk, youth zone and recipes.

IMImobile, a leading end-to-end enabler of mobile value added services, teamed up with well known TV personality Yuhi Sethu in developing the portal.

Mr Sethu said a lot of research to understand the pulse of the market was conducted before the development of portal content.

Bharti Airtel Limited Chief Operating Officer (Mobility - Chennai and Tamil Nadu) Mahesh Thampi said ''with our network now expanding quickly into smaller towns and villages, we expect our customers to fully make use of these products and express themselves in Tamil.'' IMImobile General Manager (Marketing and Operations) Suresh Jayaraju said mobile phone had now become a popular medium with deeper penetration amongst the masses. The '747' Tamil voice portal service was an innovative service and offered the benefit of communicating better in one's mother tongue.
