2,982 Tamil refugees arrive in Mandapam camp
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Jun 3 (UNI) A total of 322 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees arrived here today to seek shelter at the Mandamp camp, even as official machinery geared up to face the influx, which is expected to increase in the coming days.
The refugees who arrived in the morning included 35 children, while in the evening 59 families, including 80 men, 75 women, 25 boys and 30 girls arrived.
The number of Tamil refugees, who have fled to India since the outbreak of skirmishes in the Island nation between the Lankan army and the LTTE has risen to 2,982.
The arrival of refugees began on January 12 after the Sri Lankan forces started attacking the Tamil areas in the North Eastern region. Since then, there has been a steady flow of refugees.
