Uppal, Sridhar clinche doubles title;Monroe, Sunil in singles final
Dehradun, June 2 (UNI) Vishal Uppal and Vinod Sridhar downed the pair of Mustafa Ghouse and Sunil Kumar Sipaeya 7-5 , 6-4 to clinch the doubles title at the 15,000 dollar ITF Mens Future Tennis Tournament here today.
Ghouse and Sipaeya duo despite giving a tough fight in initial stage lost the tempo later and gave away the first set to better skilled opponents.
Earlier, third seed Nick Monroe of the United States upset top seed Henry Adjei Darko 6-4, 6-3 today to set up a date with Sunil Kumar Sipaeya in the singles final.
In the second semifinal, Monroe first matched his opponent shot for shot and then broke Darko in the tenth game before taking the opening set 6-4.
One up, Monroe stepped up the gas and broke Darko in the eighth game to make it 5-3. The American then held on to his serve to win the set and seal the match.
Earlier, in the first semifinal, sixth seed Sunil defeated compatriot Vivek Shokeen 6-3, 6-3 to move into the final.
After losing the first set, Shokeen broke Sipaeya in the second game to show an improved display of tennis and led the set 3-0. But Sipaeya rallied and broke his opponent thrice in a row to lift the set 6-3 and move into the final.
