Unemployed youths given loans by Manipur CM

Imphal,June 2 (UNI) The second phase of the Special Employment Generation Programme (SEGP) was launched today by Manipur Cheif Minister Okram Ibobi Singh in a function held at Kangla,Imphal.

The Chief Minister distributed 136 vehicles and loans to the unemployed youths during the function. He also said another 81 vehicles will be distributed within the next few days. All the cheques for distribution to the unemployed youths were given to the respective Deputy Commissioners.

There were about four to five registered unemployed youth in the state. The SEGP was launched in 2004 as a key component of development initiative and reconstruction plan devised by Dr Manmohan Singh, says Mr.Ibobi Singh.

He also said Rs 150 crores were sanctioned by the Centre and the loans will be distributed in three phases expanding over a period of three years. He appealed to the loanees to clear the loans so that more unemployed youth could enjoy the benefits the loanees were enjoying.

The scheme covers a wide spectrum of economic activities, agriculture, veterinary, horticulture, sericulture, fishery, medical, industries.

The interest rates are low, repayment period is from two to seven years. The Chief Minister said about 22,000 people will be benefitted.
